If you want more calculation power than a calculator or Appleworks, but don't want or need all the features (or the price!) of Excel, Mesa is the Mac OS X spreadsheet for you. Simple and elegant - and a pure Cocoa application - Mesa gives you the power you need in the package you want.

* Drag and Drop fonts and colors onto ranges and graphs for direct manipulation on screen. Use Macintosh Drag & Drop to place graphic images anywhere on a sheet or report.
* Mesa features file import compatibility with Excel[TM and of course, delimited text. Save in Excel and delimited text format

When you download Mesa it will run in Evaluation Mode, restricting you to worksheets no larger than 20 rows * 20 columns. You can buy a license online to fully enable Mesa.

What's new in this version:

* This version is the Universal Binary for Intel Macs and for PPC 10.4 systems.
* The application has been renamed to 'Mesa' (from 'Mesa3'). You can still use your existing Mesa3 licenses.
* You can now resize worksheets to be smaller than the previous minimum 32x32 size. Use the Worksheet Inspector to set the size for individual worksheets with a workbook. Note that after you type a value in the Columns or Rows field you must press Enter, otherwise the change will not be recognised. Use the Mesa->Preferences to set the start size for all new worksheets. The default size is 40x40. Note that worksheets will automatically get larger if you put your cursor in the bottom row / rightmost column and move down / right. If you enlarge your worksheet by mistake in this way you can simply either use the Worksheet Inspector to set the exact column/row size, or use Edit->Delete on the unwanted column or row.
* Cell entries beginning with a bracket '(' will be considered as text rather than formulas. Thus: (cm) will be entered into the cell as it appears above rather than being evaluated as an incorrect formula. Conversely: (A1+B2) will no longer be considered a formula. You must use '=' or '+' or '-' to start any formulas. If you are an existing Mesa user who uses the 'bracket' way of starting formulas you will have to go through your worksheet and put '=' before the opening bracket. Our research has shown that there are probably very few people out there who will be affected by this change.
* Fixed a bug whereby occasionally selecting options in Page Setup would crash Mesa.
* All options in Page Setup selected in Reports are now saved correctly with the report.
* The location of the preferences file has been changed to ~/Preferences/com.plsys.Mesa.plist
* If you are a Mesa3 user, you'll have to re-set up any preferences for the new Mesa 3.1 version. You will not need to re-do this for any any future releases.
