First, a short snippet for those of you who haven't heard of Myth before:
Myth II: Soulblighter is a 3rd person perspective stratery & tactics combat / adventure game. You control various units of the armies of the Light (Legion soldiers, archers, Dwarves, Beserks, Journeymen, etc) to combat the forces of the Dark (Thrall, Ghols, Wights, Fetch, etc). Use the various formations and special abilities of the units to accomplish objectives in each story plot -- some involving straight out, down and dirty combat, some involving specific tactics to avoid combat when possible to accomplish the mission.
The multi-player scenarios involve the likes of capture the flag and territory grabs, to all out raw blood fests. It's the most fun you can have cleaving undead with a sword. : )
The Story - The army of the Dark is reforming under the auspices of Soulblighter, one of the orginial Fallen Lords, who 60 years prior wreaked havoc across the lands. It is up to the Legion to stop Soulblighter from destroying the Light and ushering in an age of death and decay where evil rules the land.
Myth and Myth II were originally developed by Bungie Studios before Microsoft purchased them to develop Halo exclusively for Xbox. In the intervening time, Bungie closed their multiplayer servers, but released to code to open source so that others could continue supporting multiplayer game servers.
Myth II v1.5 is the latest result of the community's efforts (thanks to ProjectMagma.net). It updates Myth II for OS X and has support for multiplayer servers run by Mariusnet.com and PlayMyth.net. It fixes many bugs in the orginial Myth II code and updates Myth II to work even better with the various mods, new scenarios and maps on the Internet.
For those of you who have played Myth/Myth II before - it's time to bust out those old CDs again. Myth is still one of the best games of all time and looks/plays fantastic despite it's age. Myth II v1.5 allows you to run full screen or windowed mode. It's a must-download for OS X or even OS 9 users.
You can also download the orginal Myth The Fallen Lords scenarios to play using the Myth II engine... and there are many, many other great scenarios and mods out there on the waiting to be played and version 1.5 allows you to put the smack-down on your opponents, be they AI or another human on line. You definitely want this update.
If you don't have Myth II, it's easily found online for about $10... It will be worth every penny. Check Froogle.com for prices and vendors.
