I have also had NOTHING but trouble as soon as I installed/downloaded ManyCam. I would rate this 0/5 if I could! When I click on the ManyCam icon no effects or anything is available, I can see myself for just about 5 second but then the screen goes black! It's so frustrating and I've seen lots of people on the net complaining about this problem aswell!
Anyone that wants effects for their webcam, I recommend, do NOT use get ManyCam!

I have had nothing but trouble after installing ManyCam to my G5 iMac/ external Kensington USB webcam set-up.
I have total loss of my Photo Booth app as well as several other cam apps. All I have is a black screen/ no camera image. Going into the preference set up of video sources on ManyCam does not give you the option of choosing the quartz app plug in, as stated.
The uninstall drop down menu feature of Many Cam does NOT work. I have tried using APPZAP and there apparently there are still hidden preferences some wherein the Library folder, but I am unable to find them as they aren't tagged as being part of ManyCam.
The results are that I have to go through an elaborate process to chose my now limited video options every time I want to use Skype or iChat or any of the few remaining video apps that will still function with this frustrating camera hijacker on my system
I haven't had ANY response from the developer on how to find and remove the hidden files that are now dictating my video cam use. I would be happy to have ManyCam completely removed from my system, and I will then use Cam Twist as I was before, satisfactorily.
