Poor application
Dismal sound file support, inconsistent conversion process and the in ability to fix bit rates for mp4 sound files, makes this one of the worst applications I have ever paid for!

Just a GUI for free Open Source Software, Wed Mar 16 2005

Sound Converter really doesn't convert anything by itself. It is a handy User Interface for a number of free, open source software packages. Those packages are a little hard to use and Sound Converter makes using them fairly painless. That convenience is worth something. However, in spite of the fact that all the hard work is done by other people's software, the author of the Sound Converter GUI will only let this software work on one computer--ever. If you ever upgrade to a new computer you'll have to buy it all over again.

I own thousands of dollars worth of software, so it may seem petty to begrudge a shareware author a measly $10, and perhaps it is, but I'm against machine-tied licensing on principle. I don't support professional software that does this nor do I by shareware that does this.

Imagine if all your software was licensed like Sound Converter: You'd have to buy all new software every time you upgraded your computer.

That isn't a world I want to come to fruition, but by supporting vendors of software who use overly restrictive licensing terms, that is what you are encouraging.
