HOW TO UNINSTALL
Help--I've tried numerous attempts to uninstall IF2K on my mac as I can not view google maps or American Girl doll website among other things. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to uninstall--I've even tried using an uninstall software. Now, I can't even find it on my computer but it still operates. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

If2k will mess up your life!, Tue Aug 11 2009

I have to agree with one of the other reviews. If2k screwed up my Google maps and other Google items. I was not able to access my brother's Picasa web pictures. I could not even see my own pictures on Photoworks.com. If2k was very difficult to uninstall even with their "Uninstall" program. What a relief to finally find the problem was If2k all along.

Rendered My Browsers useless, Mon Feb 23 2009

Filers too much and too little
Installed whatever the current version was in Dec 2007. and forgot about it. I had installed a bunch of other stuff that weekend and noticed Google maps wasnt working. then notice I could not get to del.icio.us then My wife said she could not reach the American girl doll website.
I tried over the next year to figure out what the problem was including reinstalling OS X because I thought it was maybe a java problem. This program is hidden and I had forgotten about it finally tracked it down through the HTML Source of the Barbed wire blocked Page. Removed this program and Voila google maps is back as well as the other stuff. The filters seem overly broad and it evidently continued well past its 30 day trial period. Also did a test before uninstalling with google safe search turned off and was able to call up numerous sites with the most basic 4 letter searches. New versions may well be improved but after installation don't forget about it. Some of these problems may have been related to some weirdness in the initial version of Apples parental controls but I turned that off months ago after installing the suggested updated in my until now futile attempts to regain control of my computer

A Decent Filter, Thu Aug 21 2008

IF2K, as it comes in the download, isn't that great. As people have commented, it has a lot of big holes in the beginning. (Key word: "Beginning.") However, that said, it's obvious these people didn't spend enough time customizing the filter. Being a recovering 12-year porn addict, I know what they look for, and I was able to create a list of more than 780 phrases to supplement the filter. These phrases, combined with default, out-of-the-box settings, actually does a really good job filtering the 'net. Even better, I've been working on the list of phrases to make sure that overblocking isn't too large of a problem. I'd like to point out that I use this filter for ME, not for my kids (who don't exist) or for anyone else. I'm 26 years old and extremely experienced with computers. I have an accountability partner handle logging in to IF2K's settings. If I can set up a list of 780+ phrases and bad URLs that frustrates the attempts an adult very experienced with both porn AND computers, I don't think many kids will have the patience to tackle the barrier so long as their parents provide them with other things to do besides be on the computer all day. Obviously there are those people are going to find little holes here and there, but the same is true of any filter. No matter how tight the grip gets on the 'net, some images and even videos will slip through. It's the nature of the Beast. The only way to have a safe Internet is to have no Internet at all, just as the only way to have safe sex is to not have sex at all. If you want my list of 780+ phrases, email me at robert.side@gmail.com

Better than nothing, Thu May 01 2008

IF2K is O.K. if you merely want to keep your youngsters from stumbling across the obvious smut. However, as another reviewer stated, if you have a teen actively trying to find bad content they will be able to get around the filter. The Google images search is a BIG hole. It does block some obviously bad images in the search, but quite a few bad images get through. I do like the fact that IF2K filters across ALL browsers you have installed: Safari, Firefox, Opera. If you only have Safari, IF2K along with Safari's Parental Controls could be effective. If you have Firefox, LF2K along with with the ProCon plugin for Firefox is quite effective. You wouldn't send you kids into battle without a flak jacket, and I wouldn't let my kids on the web without some insulation. IF2K gets most of the garbage. You may have to simply talk to your teen about internet smut and sex. Hopefully it would take away the curiosity factor. My curiosity and the 'forbidden fruit' aspect is what peaked my interest as a horny teen, because my parents didn't give me THE TALK.

Not as good as it needs to be, Fri Jun 16 2006

I have been following the progress of the team at internetfilter.com for years. They are a bright bunch. However, they have not yet made this application into the kind of sophisticated, comprehensive and effective application that would make it worth getting. I have downloaded the demo a number of times and repeatedly been disappointed. As mentioned in one review there are a number of ways around it, which makes it pointless. And its user interface leaves much to be desired.

very easy to get around, Sun Apr 24 2005

there are quite a few easy get arounds. it doesnt nothing to block anything on google image search. with the filter on it still returned images of sex.jpeg and porn.jpeg. when seaching for questionable material on a general search, it did a decent enough job. i geuss it is only good at blocking the pre determined sites, but does nothing to filter the content of sites. it constantly missed sites with XXX, porn, sex, and other stuff that should obviously be filtered.

Internet Filter IF-2K, Wed Feb 23 2005
Reviewed By: Andrew Sylwester

A Sylwester
I am getting broadband this week, and am newly-concerned about my 4 children's access to internet porn. With a dial-up, and with my computer in the living room, I haven't been too concerned before. But my oldest is now 16, and we're not home all day. And with broadband, he could access movies of bukkake and bestiality (yiiiikes!). Anyway, I was SORELY disappointed to discover that the highest-rated filters were only for the PC. Worse, filters for the Mac were few, and those seemed hackneyed (e.g., Kids GoGoGo). Fortunately, there have been several new apps to appear in the past several months including ContentBarrier X3 and IF-2K. I downloaded both, but only installed IF-2K so far. I thought if IF-2K wasn't good, I'd move on to the Content Barrier app. No need. I am COMPLETELY impressed and satisfied with IF-2K. After installing it, I spent several (rather fun) hours trying to beat it. It comes preloaded with 750K sites in its database, and I was able to breach its wall with only a few slangy terms (e.g., 'lesbos'). Nicely, the app allows you to put those in to a supplementary library of banned terms. Having been a horny 16yo, I know how motivated teen boys can be to crack such a wall. Having applied my professional IT skills to this task, I didn't get far. Bravo to the programmers who made this excellent porn filter for Macs! It's probably a bit pricey (relative to PC filters; e.g., $100 vs $40), but I'm happy to acquire something so effective.)
